StoryLark, operated by Intelligent Design LLC ("we," "our," or "us"), is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. You may also optionally provide a display name.

User-Generated Content

We store the stories, characters, and preferences you create within the app. This includes story titles, content, character names and descriptions, and any photos you upload for character illustrations. Uploaded photos have location (GPS) and other embedded metadata stripped before storage.

Voice Recordings & Voiceprints

If you use the optional Voice Cloning feature, we collect the audio recording you provide and transmit it to our voice-AI provider (ElevenLabs) to create a custom synthetic narrator voice (a "voiceprint"). A voiceprint is biometric information. This feature is optional, is intended to be used only by a parent or guardian, and is never required to use the app. See the "Voice Data & Biometric Information" section below for details on how this data is handled, retained, and deleted.

Usage Data

We may collect information about how you use the app, including stories created, features used, and general usage patterns.

Website Analytics

Our marketing website (storylark.app) uses Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data such as page views, referral sources, and web performance metrics. This data does not use cookies, does not track individual users, and contains no personally identifiable information.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to provide our features:

Anthropic (Claude) - For AI story generation
OpenAI - For text-to-speech narration and image generation
ElevenLabs - For optional voice cloning; receives the voice recording you provide and stores the resulting synthetic voice (voiceprint)
Supabase - For authentication and data storage
RevenueCat - For subscription management
Stripe - For web subscription payments
Vercel - For website hosting and anonymous analytics

These services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle data.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption. We use Supabase for data storage, which provides enterprise-grade security.

Voice Data & Biometric Information

The Voice Cloning feature is optional. When you choose to use it:

Collection: we collect the audio recording you submit through the app.
Transmission & processing: the recording is sent to ElevenLabs, our voice-AI provider, which creates a synthetic voice model (a voiceprint) from it. The voiceprint is stored by ElevenLabs and used to generate narration in that voice.
Biometric notice: a voiceprint may constitute biometric information under laws such as the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) and the EU GDPR. We do not sell voice data or use it for any purpose other than generating narration you request.
Parental consent: voice recordings should only be created by a parent or guardian. You should not record a child's voice, or any other person's voice, without that person's (or their guardian's) consent.
Deletion: you can delete a cloned voice at any time from within the app, which removes the voiceprint from ElevenLabs. Deleting your account also deletes any cloned voices from ElevenLabs and removes your uploaded photos, as described under Data Retention.

Children's Privacy

StoryLark is designed for families and is intended to be used by a parent or guardian on behalf of their child. Accounts must be created and managed by an adult. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Features that involve a child's personal data — such as uploading a photo for character illustrations or recording a voice for voice cloning — are intended to be used only by a parent or guardian, who consents to that collection on the child's behalf. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without parental consent, contact us and we will delete it.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your personal data
Delete your account and associated data
Export your stories and content
Opt out of marketing communications

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. As part of account deletion we also delete any cloned voices (voiceprints) from ElevenLabs and remove your uploaded character photos from storage.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
